Fun-damentals!
Rehearsal nights: Tuesday or Wednesday, 7.15pm to 9.15pm

Our aim is always to make choral singing as accessible to as many people as we can. But it seemed to us that some people who joined one of our choirs with high hopes and the best of intentions found it too daunting, and left. After listening to feedback from some of these people, we saw that an extra step is needed for some people: a choir where you can start from the very beginning (a very good place to start...apparently!).
So in 2024 we opened our new Fun-damentals group on Tuesday nights. This is a low-pressure group for those who think they can't sing, anyone who wants to come along and sing together with no pressure, and those who want to learn more about all aspects of singing in a choir.
This group has been so successful, that we are opening a second Fun-damentals choir on Wednesday nights from the beginning of 2025.
Both the Tuesday and Wednesday groups will be held in the Garden Room of the Grey Lynn Community Centre, at the same time as Owairaka (Tuesday) and Auckland Central (Wednesday) are running in the Main Hall.
New members of Fun-damentals may transfer to one of our other choirs after two terms, if you wish - or you can just stay in Fun-damentals. There is no audition to pass in order to move on, but we will advise you if we think you are not quite ready to move to one of the other choirs yet.
In 2024, Fun-damentals members were welcomed to our Jamboree - a big singing day. And we organised our November concert so that anyone who chose to was able to join in with some songs, Lots of members have also joined in our Christmas busking events around the city. But there has been no pressure to do so. As a Fun-damentals member, you can choose to join the massed choir for the songs you know, but if you want to attend rehearsals without performing, that's also fine.
How to join?
If you're keen to give it a go, come along to one of our Open Nights. We recommend that you come in the first week of term so you can start with the rest of the group, but if you're not able to do that, all is not lost. Just be aware, though, that the same term fee applies whenever you join.

(Don't be put off by all the Terms & Conditions - we like to make it clear to people joining us what is expected, but there is a lot more leeway for Fun-damentals members.)
